Haymarket Books hosted a virtual event as part of their Haymarket Books LIVE series to celebrate Julie Carr’s latest book, Mud, Blood, and Ghosts: Populism, Eugenics, and Spiritualism in the American West, recently published by University of Nebraska Press. She was joined by authors Cristina Rivera Garza (Liliana’s Invincible Summer) and Brandon Shimoda (Hydra Medusa) for a joint reading and discussion. Mary Sutton, senior content editor for the Academy of American Poets, moderated the event.
I think it’s important to have some humility around the work that our individual books might or might not do – not only because of the value of humility but also because we quite honestly do not know. We really have no idea what happens once the book is out there and sometimes we never, never know. –Julie Carr
